At least 40 years after the "current" adventures of Batman and 20 years after Bruce Wayne retired from the role, his secret is discovered by troubled teen Terry McGinnis. After McGinnis' father is murdered by the man who took over Bruce Wayne's company, McGinnis dons a high-tech Bat suit that Wayne last used, creating a new hero for a future Gotham.
While its not the original Batman TAS, Batman beyond proves that a cartoon can be aimed at adults but still be watched by kids, much like The Justice League, or vice versa with Teen Titans.<br/><br/>Everything abut the series is still there, but in a new setting and time. The Future Gotham is dark and moody, but still has a new feeling to it. It almost has a "Gargoyles" feel to it, especially with the enhanced weapons and such.<br/><br/>Bruce Wayne is still bitter, personal, and tragic, and he always will be which is why he is a beloved character. The New batman, Terry Mcguinness, is a great replacement. Very much tragic like the original, with a very similar storyline, but young and reckless, without the proper training Bruce Wayne had endured. Watching Terry balance his teen life with his batman life is one of the fun things about the show. Terry makes mistakes, takes risks, and doesn't always do the right thing like the original, but thats one of the best things about the show. Hes not a carbon copy of Batman.<br/><br/>The minor characters are great, and starting season 2 the Max character is a great addition, finally giving Terry an "Alfred" character that he can talk to, instead of the usual Bruce Wayne.<br/><br/>The action is top notch, Terry has a bit more of a street-fighting approach to things. The animation is superb, and for sure the best in its time, almost up to Justice League standards. The voice acting couldn't be any better. The writing and episodes are always at they're very least mediocre, and sometimes brilliant. The Villains are interesting, and some of the throwbacks to original villains are extremely smart, and not presented in a way to make you annoyed, which is awesome.<br/><br/>A lot of people disregard the show for not being the original, but if you give it a chance it really does get justgood. In fact, most hardcore fans consider the show canon for its very realistic approach to the future, and how things have changed in regards to the original. Everything connects. For instance to see the ending to Batman Beyond, you'd have to watch the Justice League Unlimited episode "Epilogue" which tells how Terry's life in the future is at after the series.<br/><br/>Blatantly stating though, if you can't see how good the show is, maybe you'd be better suited for the less mature "The Batman".<br/><br/>10/10, Five Stars. On par with Justice League, and the original Batman TAS, but more relatable, particularly towards teenagers, but justgood for adults.
Throwing the series into the future gave the creaters of batman beyond a whole new cluster of avenues to take the series. I think the graphics were excellent and the storylines are often quite good. If you are into action and enjoyed the old batman series, you have to check this show out.

"Batman Beyond" takes place about 40 years after the "New Batman Adventures" series. At the time of the show's release a precise date was given2039. Meaning Bruce Wayne quit being Batman in 2019 (as seen in ''Rebirth''). This also means the episode, ''Epilogue'' takes place in the year 2054.
